Planning a Hawaii vacation? You REALLY need to consider these things…

Are you considering a Hawaii a trip to Hawaii?

I’ve been getting a lot of requests for Hawaii vacations lately. After all, if you are looking for a warm, tropical, and US-based, Hawaii seems like the perfect option.

But, is it?

Don’t get me wrong, I love Hawaii. My husband is there right now for “work” and I kind of hate him. Hawaii is a wonderful, tropical destination with friendly people and plenty to do and see. It really has something for everyone.

However, I get a lot of requests for a “4-day, budget-friendly, all-inclusive vacation to Hawaii” and that’s just not a thing that can happen.

Here are some things to think about when you decide you want to visit the land of pineapples and rainbows:

  • It’s expensive. From the East Coast, plane tickets generally run around $1,000 per person to Hawaii. Then, you still have the cost of your hotel, food, activities. Add to that the fact that everything is more expensive in Hawaii and your budget goes quickly.

  • It’s far. If you are flying from the East Coast, you can expect anywhere from 11-16 hours travel time to Hawaii. This is not the trip to take if you have less than a week to travel.

  • No all-inclusive resorts. There are no all-inclusive resorts in Hawaii, so when you are planning you must budget for everything out-of-pocket. When you consider the prices of things like food in Hawaii (a gallon of milk averages $9), it can really add up.

  • The islands aren’t close to each other. The islands of Hawaii are not close to each other. If you want to visit more than one island, you will either need to fly or take a cruise.

  • You still need a COVID test. At this time, Hawaii is requiring a negative COVID test taken within 72 hours of arrival for all guests. This is required regardless of vaccination status.

Now, don’t get me wrong. I am not trying to dissuade you from visiting the Aloha State. I encourage everyone to put this amazing destination on their bucket list. In fact, I head back next year to celebrate my 25th wedding anniversary!

I’d love to help you plan an amazing honeymoon to Hawaii, but I just want to make sure you know what you are asking for.

Want a Hawaiian feel without the distance and expense? Try St. Lucia! It’s called the “Hawaii of the Caribbean” for a reason.
