River Cruising Isn’t as Expensive as Many People Think

One of the biggest misconceptions I hear about river cruising is that it’s “too expensive.”
I understand why people feel that way when they first look at the price. River cruises often cost more upfront than many ocean cruises. But what many travelers don’t realize is just how much is already included.
As I’ve been preparing for my upcoming Danube River cruise with Avalon Waterways this summer, I just reserved FIFTEEN shore excursions for the itinerary… and didn’t pay anything extra for them. Every single one was included in the cruise fare.
That really put things into perspective for me.
On many ocean cruises, shore excursions can easily range from about $79 to $159 or more per person, per excursion. After visiting several ports, those costs can add up very quickly.
With river cruising, many of those experiences are already built into the overall price. You’re not constantly deciding whether or not to spend extra money every day in port.
On my upcoming itinerary through Romania, Transylvania, Serbia, Bulgaria, and Hungary, I’ll be enjoying included sightseeing throughout the trip, plus:
Beer and wine included with incredible lunches and dinners
Daily Happy Hour onboard
Smaller ships with a more relaxed atmosphere
Docking right in the heart of many cities
The convenience of unpacking once
When you start comparing the true overall cost of a vacation instead of just the initial cruise fare, river cruising often becomes a much better value than people expect.
I still love ocean cruising, but river cruising offers a completely different experience that feels more immersive, relaxing, and surprisingly inclusive.
Honestly, I think river cruising is one of the best kept secrets in travel.
I’m incredibly excited about my upcoming Danube River cruise this summer, and I would truly love the opportunity to help more of my clients discover why so many travelers fall in love with river cruising after experiencing it for themselves.
If you’ve ever dreamed of seeing Europe by river, I’d also love for you to take a look at my Avalon Waterways Tulip Time Group Cruise next April!
See you on the River!
