Let’s talk about one of the easiest ways to make your travel experience feel a little more VIP—skipping the long airport lines.

If you’ve ever stood in a seemingly endless security queue or waited at passport control after a long international flight, you know how valuable your time (and patience) really is.

That’s where TSA PreCheck, Global Entry, and CLEAR come in. These programs are designed to help you move through the airport faster, with less hassle. Here's a quick guide to each one—so you can choose the right fit for your travel style.

✈️ TSA PreCheck

What it is: A U.S. government program that offers access to expedited security lanes at 200+ airports nationwide.

How it works: Apply online, then schedule a quick in-person appointment (fingerprints, background check). Once approved, you’ll receive a Known Traveler Number to add to your flight reservations.

Perks include:

  • Shorter lines at airport security

  • No need to remove belts, or light jackets

  • Keep laptops and 3-1-1 liquids in your bag

  • Valid for 5 years

Cost: $78 for new applicants | $70 for renewals

Best for: Domestic travelers who fly at least a few times a year and want a smoother security experience.

🌍 Global Entry

What it is: A U.S. Customs and Border Protection program for expedited re-entry into the United States after international travel.

How it works: Apply online, complete an in-person interview, and upon approval, you’ll receive a Known Traveler Number and be automatically enrolled in TSA PreCheck.

Perks include:

  • Speed through customs when returning to the U.S.

  • Use automated Global Entry kiosks at major airports

  • Includes all TSA PreCheck benefits

  • Valid for 5 years

Cost: $100

Best for: International travelers who want to avoid long customs lines and enjoy faster security screening at home.

👁️ CLEAR

What it is: A privately operated program that uses biometric screening (fingerprints or facial recognition) to speed you through airport security before you even get to the TSA checkpoint.

How it works: Enroll online or at the airport. Once signed up, you’ll verify your identity at a CLEAR kiosk, then skip to the front of the security line.

Perks include:

  • Fast identity check with eyes or fingerprints

  • Skip the initial TSA ID check line

  • Can be used with TSA PreCheck for even faster entry

  • Expands beyond airports to some stadiums and event venues

Cost: $189/year (often discounted through credit cards or loyalty programs)

Best for: Frequent flyers who want the fastest possible airport experience.
