5 Vacation Ideas if You Don't Like the Beach

If you’ve searched for vacation ideas literally anywhere, you’ve probably seen lots of posts and recommendations about beachfront resorts or other beach destinations—you know, white-sand-this and clear-blue-water that.

But hey… what if you don’t really like the beach?

I know, I know, this sounds like sacrilege to the beach lovers out there, but some of us just aren’t fans of the usual beach vacation.

If beaches and waves don’t speak to you, but you still want an amazing and memorable vacation, let’s look beyond the beach—here are our favorite no-beach vacations!

Costa Rica

Yes, it’s a tropical destination, and yes, there are beaches to be found here, but Costa Rica is so much more!

Despite its small size (similar to the size of West Virginia), Costa Rica is home to 24 different different micro-climates. From the rainforests surrounding Arenal Volcano to the enchanting Monteverde Cloud Forest, the country is a haven for biodiversity—it’s home to a variety of stunning and unique wildlife, from sloths and monkeys to iguanas and tree frogs.

Costa Rica is particularly suited for adventure and exploration. Hike to stunning waterfalls or around one of Costa Rica's national parks, zipline through the treetops, spot wildlife on a cruise down a jungle river, or go horseback riding through the forest. Explore Costa Rican culture with visits to a local working farm or a tour of how chocolate is made. There’s an incredible wealth of unique experiences to find in this stunning country.

Alaska Cruise

It’s easy to think of cruises as a beachy, Caribbean sort of vacation, but the truth is that cruising can take you almost anywhere! For instance, get about as far away from the usual beach experience as you can by cruising to Alaska!

Explore all of the experiences that make Alaska incredible—rich history, incredible wildlife, breathtaking mountains, and awe-inspiring glaciers. In particular, a cruise through Glacier Bay is an incredible bucket-list experience. There’s no place on earth quite like it, with rivers of ice stretching over and between mountain ridges, and as you sail, you may be treated to an extraordinary sight: the calving of a glacier.

Europe River Cruise

If you prefer castles and museums over the beach, then a river cruise may just be the perfect cruise vacation for you! River cruises give you convenient access to the incredible cities and stunning countryside of Europe like no other vacation can.

Cruise into the heart of the cultural, historical, and gastronomical centers of Europe, and marvel at the stunning landscapes from the comfort of your stateroom. A river cruise brings you on an amazing journey that's far more than just a vacation - it's a voyage of cultural and artistic discovery!

National Parks Tour

For those who don’t want the beach but are still looking for beautiful outdoor adventures, then U.S. National Parks are a great option! From the canyons, arches, and hoodoos of Arizona and Utah to the forests, waterfalls, and mountains of California and Wyoming, there are so many options for stunning views and inspiring scenery.

Want a visit to the national parks without the hassle? Guided tours are available that take care of all the details for you! Contact one of our travel pros about options.

Theme Park Fun

Looking to check a big family milestone vacation off the list? There’s plenty to enjoy whether you’re looking for thrills or fun for little ones. Check out the adventure of Universal Orlando Resort, where you can enter the worlds of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Marvel Super Hero Island, Jurassic World, and more. Or, make lasting family memories with the magic of Disney at Disneyland Resort in California or Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. Enjoy exciting and family-friendly attractions, entertainment, dining, and more—all with a touch of magic.

And if you need to make a compromise with some beach-lovers in your family, both Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort are within driving distance of several nice beaches, as well.

Whatever kind of vacation you’re looking for, our Travel Pros are ready to help!
