Move Over, Italy, Croatia is Here!

I just got back from Croatia and now I completely understand why people become obsessed with this place.
Croatia is amazeballs. Seriously. It’s what people think Italy is going to feel like before they get there and realize half the world had the same idea.
The coastline is stunning, the towns look like movie sets, the food is incredible, and the wine and olive oil are ridiculously good. Everybody speaks English (which makes it easy for Americans to navigate), the people are genuinely friendly, and the whole place feels relaxed in a way that a lot of Europe doesn’t anymore.
Now let’s talk about the real surprise for me: small ship cruising with Katarina Line.
This is not a giant cruise ship with casinos, waterslides, and 5,000 people fighting over pool chairs. These are small ships carrying around 30 to 40 guests that move up and down the Croatian coast stopping in little ports and towns the big ships can’t get into.
I completely fell in love with this style of travel.
You unpack once and spend your days sailing along the Adriatic with these ridiculous views the entire time. Most mornings are slow and relaxing. You’re having breakfast on the sundeck, reading a book, watching the coastline go by, or jumping into the Adriatic during swim stops.
Then you roll into port around lunchtime and the rest of the day is yours.
That’s probably my favorite part of this whole experience.
The ships overnight in every port, so there’s no rushing back onboard by 4:00 PM. You actually have time to wander through town, sit at a waterfront restaurant for dinner, find a little wine bar, or just walk around and soak it all in.
It feels very different from ocean cruising. It even feels different from river cruising.
It’s relaxed. It’s immersive. It feels like you are actually experiencing Croatia instead of just checking it off a list.
This type of travel is a fantastic fit for:
Guests looking for a more immersive European experience
River cruise lovers looking for something different
Travelers who want Europe without massive crowds
Couples who enjoy slower-paced travel
Food and wine lovers
One thing I was really excited to learn is that Katarina Line also offers private charters. These can be customized with private excursions, drinks packages, activities, and even custom itineraries. I immediately started thinking about friend groups, milestone birthdays, wine clubs, family groups, and other small group trips because this would be SUCH a fun way to experience Croatia together.
Pricing is also much more reasonable than most people expect for this kind of experience. Most 7-night itineraries fall around €2,000 to €2,500 per person. It's a fantastic value!
I came home completely sold on both Croatia and Katarina Line, and I have a feeling this destination is about to explode in popularity over the next few years.
If Croatia has been on your radar, or if you’re looking for a Europe trip that feels different from the typical tourist experience, let's talk.
