What made you fall in love with travel?
When my oldest was 3, we decided to surprise him with a trip to Walt Disney World. Our youngest was 7 months old old, so this trip was all about our oldest.
Watching through their eyes was the highlight of our vacation. This is what made me decide to become a travel advisor and help other families make lasting memories with their families.
What's the biggest mistake you see travelers make?
One of the biggest mistakes travelers often make is overpacking. Many people bring too many clothes and unnecessary items, which can lead to heavy luggage, added stress, and difficulty moving around. Instead, travelers should focus on packing versatile clothing that can be mixed and matched, as well as prioritizing essentials. Creating a packing list based on the specific activities planned and the destination's climate can also help ensure that only necessary items are included. This not only makes travel more convenient but also allows for a more enjoyable and less stressful experience.
What is one trip you think everyone should take in their life?
One destination that everyone should see at least once is Kyoto, Japan. Known for its stunning blend of traditional and modern culture, Kyoto offers breathtaking temples, beautiful gardens, and historic districts like Gion, where you can glimpse geisha culture. The cherry blossoms in spring and vibrant maple leaves in autumn create a picturesque backdrop that's truly magical. Additionally, the city's rich culinary scene, including kaiseki dining and matcha tea experiences, adds to its charm. It’s a place where you can immerse yourself in history, art, and nature all at once.
What's one item you can't imagine traveling without?
One item I can't imagine traveling without is a good book. It provides entertainment during long journeys, a way to unwind at the end of a day, and often sparks inspiration or reflection about the places and experiences encountered along the way. Plus, it’s a great conversation starter with fellow travelers!
What's your idea of the perfect vacation?
My idea of a perfect vacation would involve a mix of relaxation and adventure. Picture this: a serene beach destination with crystal-clear waters, where I can spend the mornings lounging under the sun with a good book. In the afternoons, I’d explore local culture by visiting markets, trying new foods, and engaging with locals. Evenings would be spent enjoying breathtaking sunsets, perhaps with a beach bonfire or a cozy dinner at a seaside restaurant. A balance of tranquility and exploration makes for a fulfilling getaway!
What's the #1 thing you wish more people knew about planning a trip?
The number one thing I wish more people knew about traveling and planning a vacation is the importance of flexibility. While having a well-thought-out itinerary can be helpful, being open to spontaneous experiences often leads to the most memorable moments. Travel plans can change due to weather, local events, or simply discovering something unexpected. Embracing the journey with a flexible mindset allows for unique adventures, deeper connections with locals, and the chance to create lasting memories beyond what was initially planned.
