How to Make Your Cruise Ship Loyalty Rewards Go Even Farther

As a travel advisor, I have a bit of a loyalty program problem. Part of my job is experiencing different cruise lines, hotels, resorts, and vacation brands so I can make the best recommendations for my guests. That means I'm always trying something different instead of returning to the same brand over and over again.
The downside? It’s really hard to reach the higher tiers of any loyalty program! I'm getting close to Platinum with Disney Cruise Line, but that's about it.
Or so I thought.

Enter the status match! Where loyalty to one travel brand can earn you perks with an entirely different one. In my case, I have Platinum Elite status with IHG One Rewards, which happens to be the loyalty program for one of my favorite hotels in Rome (Hotel Indigo – St. George) and one of my favorite staycation hotels in Philadelphia (Kimpton Hotel Palomar.) I didn't earn that status through dozens of hotel stays though. It came through a credit card benefit.
I'm sailing with Virgin Voyages for the first time next year, and I discovered that Virgin is currently offering a status match to travelers with qualifying loyalty status from other cruise lines, hotels, and even airlines.
I submitted my IHG Platinum status, and just like that, I qualified for Virgin Voyages Blue Extras on my first cruise!
That means I'll receive perks like a complimentary specialty coffee each day, free laundry service, and an invitation to an exclusive cocktail event.
Nice perks for my very first Virgin cruise! (I’ll also get free Sailor Loot same as all of my guests, which is onboard spending money we can use toward things like drinks, spa treatments, shore excursions, and more.) Keep reading to the end to find out how you can apply for a status match, too!
Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, and Silversea share the loyalty love, too!
Here's another great example, especially if you've been cruising for years.
Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruises, and Silversea are all part of the same cruise family, and they offer reciprocal loyalty status matching across all three brands.
For example, if you've earned Diamond status with Royal Caribbean, you can receive Elite status with Celebrity Cruises and a corresponding Venetian Society tier with Silversea, even if you've never sailed with either one!
I especially love this for families whose vacation styles are changing.
Maybe you've spent years enjoying Royal Caribbean cruises with your kids, but now you're ready to try Celebrity for an adults-only getaway. Or perhaps you're celebrating a special anniversary and want to experience the luxury of Silversea. You don't necessarily have to start from scratch with your loyalty benefits!
And there's another new perk for 2026. Royal Caribbean Group introduced Points Choice, which allows guests to direct loyalty points earned while sailing on one of these three cruise lines toward another brand's loyalty program. That means you can continue working toward your next loyalty tier even while trying something different.
The specific benefits and point conversions vary by brand, and some perks are reserved for guests who earned their status directly. But it's a great opportunity to explore a new cruise experience while still making the most of your loyalty.
My advice? Before your next vacation, take a look at the loyalty memberships you already have. Even status earned through a credit card benefit might open doors you didn't realize were available.
Thinking about trying Virgin Voyages? This is your week!
Virgin Voyages is an adults-only cruise line that does things a little differently. Think excellent dining without traditional cruise dining times, contemporary ships, creative entertainment, and a fun, relaxed atmosphere.
It's a great option for couples, friends traveling together, or parents looking for a getaway without the kids.
And right now, Virgin is offering a special opportunity for first-time sailors who have qualifying loyalty status with other travel brands.
The Virgin Voyages status match promotion ends October 31, 2026!
To qualify, you must apply for the match, receive approval, and book a new eligible Virgin Voyages cruise by October 31. You can sail later, so this is an opportunity to plan ahead.
And here's another reason to book your Virgin cruise with Modern Travel Professionals!
As a Virgin Voyages First Mate (that's what Virgin calls its travel advisors!), we have access to exclusive Sailor Loot, which is onboard spending money you can use toward things like drinks, spa treatments, shore excursions, and more.
Depending on the sailing, cabin category, and how far in advance you book, eligible reservations can receive $50 to $400 in additional onboard credit just for booking through a Modern Travel Pro!
That is in addition to the personalized service and guidance you'll receive throughout the planning process.
