Visiting Universal Orlando Resort in 2021

The adventures are ready to continue in 2021! If you're ready to explore the thrills of Jurassic Park, be awestruck at Marvel Super Hero Island, and experience the magic at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Universal Orlando is ready to welcome you! Here's what you need to know about visiting Universal Orlando Resort in 2021.

First of all, Universal Orlando is continuing to enforce updated safety guidelines for their theme parks and resorts. These guidelines include requiring face coverings for all guests, temperature checks upon arrival to the theme parks or your resort, social distancing guidelines enforced throughout the theme parks and resorts, and enhanced cleaning protocols. You can learn more about Universal Orlando's safety guidelines here.

So, what exactly is open at Universal Orlando right now? Nearly all major attractions are open and operating at both Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure. There are a few exceptions - playgrounds throughout the theme parks are closed, as well as the Jurassic Park Discovery Center. Select minor attractions are also closed, including shows such as Poseidon's Fury and Fear Factor Live. Parades are not currently running, and nighttime shows are running on a limited schedule. However, most other major thrill rides and shows are still operating with social distancing protocols in place. Plus, characters are still available to meet in various locations around the parks throughout the day, also with social distancing.

Guests visiting specifically for the Wizarding World of Harry Potter will be happy to hear that the entire land is open! All the major attractions are running, nearly all dining locations and shops are open, and guests can still enjoy special experiences like riding the Hogwarts Express and visiting Ollivander's Wand Shop.

One big item to note is that Universal's Volcano Bay closed for the winter season, and will reopen by March 1, 2021.

In addition to being familiar with the updated guidelines, the best way to prepare for a visit to Universal Orlando is to download and get familiar with the Universal Orlando official app! This app offers a lot of useful ways to navigate the parks, and to comply with social distancing measures. The Universal Orlando app allows you to:

  • Link and scan your theme park tickets at the gates

  • View maps of the parks

  • Check which attractions are open, and check wait times

  • Enter the Virtual Line for select attractions

  • View show times

  • Order food and drinks from most dining locations

  • Find useful information like park hours and amenity locations

Be sure to download it before your trip!

Universal Orlando also has some new additions to enjoy in 2021!

First of all, Universal Orlando has welcomed their 8th on-site resort hotel, Universal's Dockside Inn and Suites! This value resort is the second part of the Endless Summer Resort that opened in 2019 with Universal's Surfside Inn and Suites. Offering spacious and affordable rooms, casual dining, a pool and fitness center, and a laid-back vibe, Dockside Inn & Suites is a great budget-friendly option for visitors to Universal Orlando's theme parks. It's an especially good fit for families looking for extra space at an affordable price with their 2-bedroom suites. Plus, all guests also get additional perks like Early Admission to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and complimentary bus transportation to the theme parks.

Are you ready for some new thrills? The Jurassic World VelociCoaster, opening in 2021 at Universal Orlando Resort, will raise the bar in extreme roller coaster design and become the ultimate experience for coaster enthusiasts and thrill-seekers! Now under construction at Universal’s Islands of Adventure, the Jurassic World VelociCoaster will span more than 4,700 feet of track, reaching heights of up to 155 feet! The coaster’s signature maneuvers will have guests twisting and soaring above land, barrel rolling just inches above water, speeding through near-misses and launches within the paddock, and more…
