What made you fall in love with travel?

As long as I can remember, I have loved traveling. When I was a kid, every year in January, my parents and I would start talking about where we wanted to go that year. We always took road trips, so once we figured out which direction we were going, then the fun began - the research! Of course, this was way before the internet, so our research involved looking at maps (remember those things?) and going to the library! And then, once the trip started, I got to follow along on those magical paper maps, while we played road trip games and enjoyed the journey of discovering new places. I learned to love the trip planning as much as the actual journey on those trips - and it's something that I still love!

What's the biggest mistake you see travelers make?

Not getting travel insurance. It's such a simple thing to do to protect your travel investment - but so many people think "I don't need travel insurance, I know I am taking the trip, and won't be cancelling". I think COVID should have taught people otherwise - and more people do seem to want travel insurance now than pre-pandemic - but there are still way too many people who have no problem spending tens of thousands of dollars on a vacation, but don't want to spend a few hundred dollars to protect themselves. Life is unpredictable, and travel insurance covers so much more than just cancelling your trip! Flight delays and cancellations, medical issues (SO important if you're traveling out of the country, since US health insurance typically doesn't cover issues out of the US), even things lost luggage - all can potentially be covered by a travel insurance policy. It's something that you hope you never need, but will be very glad you have it if you do have a problem.

What is one destination you think everyone should see in their life?

See the Grand Canyon. People say pictures don't do it justice, and people are right! I will never forget how completely in awe I was the first time I saw it. The overwhelming immensity of the canyon was hard to grasp. And the next morning when my husband and I got up early to watch the sun rise, was truly a magical, almost spiritual experience, and one that I will remember for the rest of my life.

What's one item you can't imagine traveling without?

A camera (or the camera on my phone). Memories made when traveling are beyond priceless, and I try to capture as many as I can while traveling. There is so much joy in re-living those travel memories later by looking at the photos!

What's your idea of the perfect vacation?

Discovering new places, trying new foods, learning new things, and meeting new people - travel opens up the world to those who are open to exploration! One of my favorite quotes is from St. Augustine: "The world is a book, and those who do not travel, read only one page." My perfect vacation is reading chapters in that book!

What's the #1 thing you wish more people knew about planning a trip?

That travel is amazing, but it can get complicated keeping track of everything. But as travel advisors, we have the experience and knowledge to help make that planning easy and stress-free. The internet is great, but when it comes to accurate information and guidance - especially when there's a problem - Google isn't going to help. But we will!
